Creating explainer videos with Vyond's new Storybook style characters

Last night, I finished a video using the Storybook style characters and wanted to share it with my Vyond Producer peeps.

Some things I learned while creating in this style:

  1. Storybook is a new style, so the only assets are really the characters themselves. But don’t let this discourage you from using it.

  2. The characters definitely fill a gap in style that was lacking in Vyond and I’m stoked to use them more. I maximized the cool look of these characters and de-emphasized the need for props and sets.

  3. Though this video has story elements in it, it is essentially an explainer video, and the Storybook characters do a phenomenal job of communicating the action of the message.

  4. There aren’t any corresponding props or backgrounds that match the style, so I used washes of color and the backgrounds of pre-made templates in Vyond as my set.

  5. Many of the actions for these characters have not been perfected yet (crossed arms, for instance, sometimes place the hands in awkward positions, but there are plenty of actions that work great. Plus, you can use video-to-action with these characters because they are based on the same frame as the contemporary characters. Woot!

Thank you, Vyond, for releasing the Storybook style in its current state.

I’m excited to see this style fully fleshed out!
